Tenuta L'Illuminata 2004 Tebavio Nebbiolo (Barolo)
Tebavio Barolo from La Morra opens with a pretty garnet color and segues to bold aromas of sweet spice, clove, ground ginger, road tar, licorice and black fruit. It’s a linear and dry wine with a brooding personality and tannins as tight as nails. It doesn’t have huge volume in the mouth, nor does it need it. Drink after 2012.

Tenuta L'Illuminata 2007 Tebavio Nebbiolo (Barolo)
Price
$62
Barolo Tebavio is a thick, well extracted expression of Nebbiolo with red fruit tones, plum, sweet vanilla and ground coffee. The wine feels yielding but dense with a plush texture and a soft, silky feel. Like many wines from the 2007 vintage, it requires less aging (five years or so) to reach its optimal drinking window.

Tenuta L'Illuminata 2006 Tebavio Nebbiolo (Barolo)
Price
$70
Barolo Tebavio delivers a wild, untamed nature with aromas of wet earth, blue flower, underbrush, white mushroom and wild berries. Those aromas are a bit muddled at first but unwind with time in the glass to reveal a solid, firm whole. In the mouth, it is streamlined and tight.

Tenuta L'Illuminata 2005 Colbertina Barbera (Barbera d'Alba)
Price
$25
Despite its age (the wine is from the 2005 vintage) this Barbera d’Alba is impressively vinous and fresh with bright berry notes backed by some prune and plum nuances. It’s tart and chewy in the mouth.
