Tenuta San Giorgio 2007 Ugolforte Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $30
Features sweet fruit, plum, prune and a savory element of spice and smoke; loads of leather and tobacco as well. Deep rich, concentration and a plush, velvety feel. Oak tones must still integrate, but promise a nice future.  — M.L.  (5/1/2012)

Tenuta San Giorgio 2004 Cacciacone Red (Toscana)

  1. $50
This is an attractive 50-50 blend of Cab and Syrah with thick, lush notes of sweet vanilla, black pepper and ripe cherry. It takes a modern, New World approach and stands on its own in terms of complexity and persistence; it’s clean and fresh in the mouth with polished tannins.  — M.L.  (4/1/2008)

Tenuta San Giorgio 2006 Cacciacone Red (Toscana)

  1. $40
Here’s a fabulous 50-50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah that offers black, thick consistency and meaty aromas of cured beef, peppercorn, smoke, tobacco and loads of luscious dark berry fruit. It’s a soft, velvety wine with a plush, soft finish.  — M.L.  (12/15/2010)

Tenuta San Giorgio 2006 Ugolforte Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $60
Ugolforte Brunello opens with perfumed aromas of blue flower, wild berries, white cherry, cinnamon, vanilla and a slight hint of toasted coconut. In fact, those oak-driven aromas could use more time to integrate. The mouthfeel, however, is more evolved at this stage with bright acidity and a spicy aftertaste.  — M.L.  (4/1/2011)

Tenuta San Giorgio 2005 Cacciacone Red (Toscana)

  1. $50
This is a full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon-Syrah blend that delivers aromas of mature fruit, plum, prune and spice. The nose lacks a bit of focus perhaps but it certainly delivers intensity and length. Warm fruit flavors and sweet spice accent the mouthfeel.  — M.L.  (11/1/2009)

Tenuta San Giorgio 2005 Ugolforte Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $50
This is a ripe and plump Brunello that could use two or three years of cellar aging to allow the oak notes to fully integrate. The quality of the fruit is excellent—cherry, blackberry and currants abound. Immediately behind those aromas, however, is loads of spice, smoke and tar. Drink after 2012.  — M.L.  (10/1/2010)

Tenuta San Giorgio 2004 Ugolforte Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $65
This is an oak-driven Brunello that imparts woodshop aromas of spice, toast, mesquite and vanilla. The wine offers loads of intensity in the mouth and gains momentum thanks to its thick, warming texture. Drink it after 2012 to allow time for those oak aromas to mellow.  — M.L.  (6/1/2009)

Tenuta San Giorgio 2001 Ugolforte Sangiovese (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $50
Here’s a deviation from Brunello’s standard aromatic portfolio with herbal, bay leaf like aromas, pomegranate and grassy notes. Not as full and dense as others but pleasantly lush and fruity in the mouth. Imported by Blavod Extreme Spirits.  — W.E.  (4/1/2006)
