Terra Blanca 2001 Syrah (Red Mountain)

  1. $20
Tarry, smoky and reluctant to show its fruit at first, this wine rewards lengthy decanting with dark, substantial flavors of cherry tobacco and plump plum. Plenty of tannin adds welcome heft.  — P.G.  (4/1/2005)

Terra Blanca 1999 Syrah (Red Mountain)

  1. $20
This Syrah sports a licorice-black cherry-cedar bouquet. The creamy, full mouthfeel is backed by blackberry, cherry, cedar and vanilla flavors. Not complex, but very flavorful, and showing nice integration, it finishes with American oak, firm tannins and slight prickly heat.  — W.E.  (10/1/2001)

Terra Blanca 1999 Block 8 Syrah (Washington)

  1. $28
From Washington state’s newest AVA, this Syrah’s slightly stewed, dark red-berry fruit wears green herb and metallic notes. Medium-weight and soft on the tongue, it shows an almost apple-butter-like quality. Modest tannins and the apple note (perhaps a Washington thing from the old apple orchards?) again appear on the long finish.  — W.E.  (11/1/2001)

Terra Blanca 2001 Block 8 Syrah (Red Mountain)

  1. $35
This special selection of syrah may have looked better in the fermenting vat, but it can’t hold a candle to the winery’s other Red Mountain bottling. Mushrooms, nail polish, saddle leather and other earthy scents overwhelm the varietal fruit. There’s a lot going on, and some tasters will surely love it.  — P.G.  (4/1/2005)

Terra Blanca 2003 Viognier (Yakima Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $15
Very pale, almost colorless, with some light scents of orange and citrus rind. Spritzy and aggressively tart, this thin wine is too sour to deliver much pleasure.  — P.G.  (4/1/2005)
