The Grade 2007 Winfield Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  1. $80
Shows a great return to form over the 2006, with the lush flavors and rich attractions of the 2005. With soft but complex tannins, the wine immediately appeals for its wealth of blackberries, black currants and plums, enriched with smoky oak. Very rich, pure and refined. Fine now, with a good decant, and should age well for a decade.  — S.H.  (12/15/2010)

  1. $80
Made in the modern style, this Cab is soft and creamy in the mouth, and fantastically rich. It oozes ripe, crushed blackberries, black currants and dark unsweetened chocolate, with the sweetness coming from natural fruit and caramelized oak. The tannins are as soft and complex as they come.  — S.H.  (12/1/2009)

The Grade 2006 Winfield Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  1. $80
Vintage seems to have made all the difference in this 100% Cabernet. The 2005 was rich and fat, the 2006 less so. You’ll find plenty of acidity framing the juicy blackberry and black currant flavors. It seems to be very finely layered, so your best bet is to cellar it for 6–8 years and see what happens.  — S.H.  (12/15/2010)

The Grade 2009 Sea-Fog Sauvignon Blanc (Calistoga)

  1. $25
The grapes were grown in Calistoga, and they have yielded a fat, soft, flavorful wine. It brims with lemon, lime, melon, fig and honeysuckle flavors. Partial barrel fermentation adds a welcome touch of smoked cream.  — S.H.  (12/15/2010)

The Grade 2008 Winfield Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (Calistoga)

  1. $80
This 100% Cabernet was grown in a Calistoga vineyard. It was aged in 40% new oak. At the age of 3½ years, it’s still quite tannic, even a bit rustic, with zippy acidity and fresh, jammy blackberry and black cherry flavors. Hard to say where it’s going, but try aging it for 5–6 years and see what happens.  — S.H.  (5/1/2012)

The Grade 2008 Sea-Fog Sauvignon Blanc (Napa Valley)

  1. $25
There’s hardly any oak on this wine, so what you get is pure, clean Sauvignon character. With crisp acidity, the wine brims with lemon, lime, green melon, vanilla and spice flavors, with a hint of tart gooseberry. It’s totally dry.  — S.H.  (12/1/2009)
