Undulating with richness and flavor. There’s a textural brilliance that stands out on this sumptuous Trockenbeerenauslese-style Riesling from the North Fork’s Roman Roth. Gorgeously perfumed with roses, freesia, lanolin and honey, it’s a complex, composed representative of a fine American dessert wine.
Big and brooding with richly concentrated black plums and velvety, mouthfilling tannins, Roman Roth’s namesake Merlot is boldly structured, but beautifully nuanced as well, with sprays of violet perfume and just a whiff of wet, earthy forest and dried herb notes. Drink now with a good decant, or hold for another 2–3 years.
Aromas of lush black cherries, coffee grinds and darkly toasted oak meld effortlessly in winemaker Roman Roth’s powerful Long Island Merlot. After 21 months in French oak, the wine is smooth as silk yet intensely focused with a rich fruit palate accented by hints of forest floor and bramble, velvety soft tannins and a balanced astringency. Lovely all around.
A harmonious wine, with nuances of black currants, crushed blackberries and red raspberries backed up by gripping tannins and fresh acidity. Medium, plum-flavored finish. Try with game. Best now to 2011.
Made from one of the best vintages ever on Long Island, and backed by Roman Roth, the winemaking talent behind Wolffer Estate, Shinn Estate and Roanoke. For the most part, it delivers with notes of exotic spice, spearmint and cherry in the nose, and a supple, smoked meat and herbal character whose parts come together with elegance.
Flecks of flint and stone add a sleek minerality to flavors of underripe peach and apricot on Roman Roth’s Long Island Riesling. It’s a tad thin on the palate, but brisk lemon-lime acidity and flavors of sour plum and lemon pith on the finish are tasty.
This Riesling is the project of Roman Roth, accomplished winemaker for Long Island’s Wolffer Estate. Tropical fruit and pear in the nose and on the palate is balanced by a nice minerality and spice. The wine has depth but is still refreshing. Pair with Thai food, fruit.
