Three Fox 2007 Alouette Cabernet Franc (Virginia)

  1. $27
This elegant, soft red starts with layers of cherry, warming spice, vanilla and mint, and leads into flavors of red berry, cinnamon, pepper and spice. Subtle but structured, it’s a classy sip.  — S.K.  (2/1/2010)

Three Fox 2007 Piemontese Nebbiolo (Virginia)

  1. $30
Nebbiolo has proved to be an enormously difficult grape to grow outside of a few small areas in Northern Italy, but Three Fox Vineyards has done an admirable job. There’s pleasant strawberry fruit here with an earthy underpinning of fresh tar. In the mouth, Nebbiolo’s trademark grippy tannins proved a backdrop for intense, cherry fruit. Give the tannins a few years…  — W.E.  (5/1/2010)

Three Fox 2007 Il Signor Reserve Sangiovese (Virginia)

  1. $29
All cherry and sawdust upfront, backed up by a bed of velvety tannins. Vanilla and char notes dominate the palate while some berry-intense flavor comes through on the crisp finish. A year in the cellar would allow for some needed integration.  — W.E.  (5/1/2010)

Three Fox 2007 Il Volpe Sangiovese (Virginia)

  1. $23
There is potential in this wine that bodes well for the future of Sangiovese in Virginia. The nose is charming, with mocha, fall leaves and cherries that slide into a silky palate with woodsy touches. Juicy, raspberry-inflected finish. Try with steak. Drink now.  — W.E.  (5/1/2010)

Three Fox 2010 Alouette Cabernet Franc (Virginia)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $27
Notes of crushed black pepper and cedar against a backdrop of ripe red fruit are pleasant on this full-bodied Cab Franc, but hints of green reeds and resin distract.  — A.I.  (12/31/2011)
