Tolosa
Tolosa Winery is a custom grape crushing facility in the heart of Edna Valley and home to Tolosa Wines and its state of the art tasting room. Established in 1998, Tolosa Vineyards utilizes sustainable farming practices with vineyards located between Santa Barbara and Paso Robles, in the coastal hills of San Luis Obispo. Tolosa has set out to create an inviting and educational wine tasting experience with a modern designed winery and an interactive component tasting area. Tolosa has over 720 acres planted with Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Syrah, Rose of Syrah, Pinot Noir, Grenache and Merlot according to our Tolosa wine reviews. In August 2009 Tolosa converted to solar electrical generation and all vineyards are SIP Certified, demonstrating sustainability in practice. Tolosa 2004 1772 Edna Ranch Chardonnay (Edna Valley)

Here’s a really good Chardonnay: Crisp, delicate and dry, it shows great acidity and brilliant fruit, saturating the palate with pineapple tart, Key lime pie, vanilla cream, crème brûlée and cinnamon spice flavors. Finishes with the deliciously creamy, yeasty complexities of lees aging.

Tolosa 2006 Estate Edna Ranch Chardonnay (Edna Valley)

By itself, Tolosa’s Edna Ranch Chardonnay is rich and crisp, always exhibiting exciting flavors of limes, kiwis and pineapples. Add oak barrels, and complex layers appear, of peaches and cream, vanilla fudge and buttered toast. All that, and the wine is entirely dry.

Tolosa 2004 Heritage Blend Red Wine (Edna Valley)

Only 500 cases of this intense, immature wine were produced. Grenache brings bright red cherries, while Syrah contributes weight and tannins and a darker, more brooding streak. The result is a very fine Rhône wine, stylish and complex, but it needs some time. Best 2008 through 2012, or double-decant it now.

Rich, full-bodied and dry, this blend of unspecified varieties has a dense, mouth-filling quality to it. Tannic and crisp, its flavors veer toward ripe black currants, beef tartare, tamari and dark chocolate, and while that sounds weird, it’s actually quite harmonious. Drink now.

Based on Syrah, this is a distinguished, upscale blend. It’s bone dry and quite tannic, with crisp Central Coast acidity, but most importantly it shows deep, intricate flavors of blackberries, currants, licorice, cola and sandalwood. A very fine release from Tolosa.
