Torres de Anguix 2002 Crianza Tinto del Pais (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $14
Lean and woody, with mint, herbs and sawdust on the nose. The palate is surprisingly saturated and healthy, with pepper and vanilla running side by side with dry cherry and raspberry. A bit scouring and tannic.  — M.S.  (6/1/2005)

Jumpy and young, with a touch of pickle on the nose. In the mouth, it’s all about high-toned red fruit, particularly cherry and raspberry. Very bright and a bit acidic, but with that comes a certain freshness that keeps the wine alert. Should get better with some bottle age. Imported by Hand Picked Selections.  — M.S.  (4/1/2006)

Torres de Anguix 2003 Tinto Tinto del Pais (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $10
Black in color and saturated with plum, fruit cake and vanilla aromas. Big in the mouth but clumsy, with dense, thumping black cherry and blackberry flavors. In fact, everything about the wine is black, including the burnt, licorice-tinged finish. Ponderous in the long run.  — M.S.  (6/1/2005)

Reduced, sweet aromas lead into a chunky red-fruit palate that lacks structure but remains wet and juicy. Finishes mildly hot and spicy, but without much stuffing.  — M.S.  (6/1/2005)
