Toscanini 2002 Adagio Espressivo Red (Canelones)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $30
Earth, saddle leather and roasted berry aromas lead the meaty nose to a round, mildly tanninc palate that's holding full plum and berry flavors. For Uruguay, this is a nice wine that hits on the proper cylindars. But in the long run the oak is a bit weighty and the balance seems tenuous. Good by local standards.  — M.S.  (6/8/2010)

Toscanini 2004 TCM Red (Canelones)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $19
Maybe this wine weighs in a bit stewy and heavy, but along the way it has some virtues, namely an attractive rum-raisin quality to the bouquet and intense black-fruit flavors. It's a chunky wine that stumbles along the palate, but you have to admire it's richness and stuffing. The blend is Tannat, Cabernet and Merlot.  — M.S.  (6/8/2010)

Toscanini 2002 Tannat (Canelones)

  1. $9
Spicy, with somewhat attractive yet hollow aromas. The palate is grapy, with oak and berry flavors. The mouthfeel is textured but comes with a bit of a burnt, cooked fruit. Still, it stirs interest for the grape and origin.  — M.S.  (10/1/2004)

Toscanini 2003 Trebbiano 70% - Semillon 30% White (Canelones)

  1. $8
Odd but okay. The nose is unrecognizable as a whole, but in there is pear, apple and butter—not your normal Sauvignon aromas. Citrus on the palate and a long, herbaceous finish.  — M.S.  (10/1/2004)

Toscanini 2002 Reserva Tannat (Uruguay)

  1. $30
Mildly saucy and stewy, with damp aromas. The palate is a touch green, with olive, bell pepper and tomato notes feeding into primary plum flavors. Hard as can be on the tongue, with cheek-scratching tannins.  — M.S.  (11/1/2006)

Toscanini 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon (Canelones)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $9
Dark in color, with black plum along with damp earth aromas. But in the mouth it’s sharp, with searing acidity. A confusing, atypical Cabernet.  — M.S.  (11/15/2004)

Toscanini 1999 Reserve Tannat (Canelones)

  1. $13
If this five-year-old wine is an indication, then Tannat doesn’t age that well. This example is rusty and orange at the rim, with dried fruit, caramel and earth on the nose. Over the hill.  — M.S.  (10/1/2004)

Toscanini 2003 Sauvignon Blanc (Canelones)

  1. $8
Not great, but shows some banana and pear flavors and aromas. Weak and watery; inoffensive.  — M.S.  (10/1/2004)
