Plush, ripe, rich and packed with black cherry, chocolate, spice, tar, cinnamon, blackberry and herb flavors. The wine is silky smooth yet sports the kind of balance and structure of a great wine. Firm and profound. Great Zinfandel. Editors’ Choice.

Big, bright, ripe fruit here, with blackberry, black cherry, cassis, plum, spice and cedar notes all intertwined. The texture is plush and full, with round, ripe tannins in place to frame it all and a long, lush finish for staying power. Editors’ Choice.

Tres Sabores 2006 Petite Sirah (Napa Valley)
-
$45
Typical of a young, fine Petite Sirah, this bottle is too tannic and unintegrated to drink now. But it has a gigantic heart of blackberries, currants, chocolate, anise, leather and cedar, and should have no problem developing in the bottle over the next decade. Hold until after 2011.

Tres Sabores 2001 Ken Bernards Zinfandel (Rutherford)

$38
Quite smooth, with plush tannins that frame a web of coffee, cocoa, blackberry, raspberry and herb flavors. Acidity is bright, with an almost citrus-like edge, keeping the flavors moving along the palate nicely. Long, sleek and supple to the end.

Tres Sabores 2003 Perspective Cabernet Sauvignon (Rutherford)
-
$48
Very young and pretty tannic now with a mouth-numbing astringency, so you don’t want to pop that cork tonight. But give it time. There’s a deep, molten core of blackberry fruit, and the wine is dry and balanced. Should soften by 2009 and hold, if not improved, for another ten years.

Aromas of menthol and eucalyptus are up front here, followed by ripe, jammy black cherry, spice, chocolate, coffee, plum and herb flavors. Thick and plush-textured, this is an ultra-ripe style with finesse.
