Turkey Flat 2005 Shiraz (Barossa Valley)

  1. $48
Owner/winemaker Peter Schulz has taken a little-known page from Hermitage, using a small amount of Marsanne to add a rich, glyceric mouthfeel to this impressively endowed wine. Savory, spicy notes give complexity to the ripe blackberry fruit flavors, which linger elegantly on the finish, couched in soft tannins. Drink now–2020.  — J.C.  (11/1/2007)

Turkey Flat 2001 Shiraz (Barossa Valley)

  1. $36
Juicy and pleasurable on the palate—a great mix of berries and plums, caramel and smooth tannins. The nose was a little closed when the wine was reviewed; aeration is probably in order if it’s drunk now.  — D.T.  (2/1/2004)

Turkey Flat 2005 Butchers Block S-G-M Red (Barossa Valley)

  1. $24
This blend of Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro is meaty and savory, with spice and leather notes that impart a dark, mysterious character. Sour plum and cola flavors continue the dark theme, buffered by soft tannins. Finishes long. Drink now–2012.  — J.C.  (11/1/2007)

Turkey Flat 2002 Grenache (Barossa Valley)

  1. $15
Red fruit is spicy on the nose, and segues to lush raspberry and cherry flavors on the palate. Finishes full and dry, with red plums. Made from bush vines that were planted in the 1920s.  — D.T.  (2/1/2004)

Turkey Flat 2006 Rosé (Barossa Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $19
This is a bright red rosé--more like a tranlucent red than a pink wine--and it even acts a little like a red wine, offering ample palate weight and grip to go with its summery flavors of fresh berries. So ripely fruity that it almost tastes a bit sweet on the finish, but it stays this side of balanced. Drink now.  — J.C.  (7/1/2007)

Turkey Flat 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon (Barossa Valley)

  1. $36
A very good, pleasing Cabernet with bouncy plum and black berry fruit that verges on sweet. Nose has plum, eucalyptus and mocha aromas; finishes a little woody, with more vivid plum. A straightahead, enjoyable wine.  — D.T.  (2/1/2004)

Turkey Flat 2002 Marsanne-Semillon (Barossa Valley)

Fruit-driven and fresh, yellow fruit on the palate takes on honey accents as well. Dressed up with bright citrus notes. 10% barrel fermented in new French oak.  — D.T.  (2/1/2004)

Turkey Flat 2006 Grenache (Barossa Valley)

  1. $29
From a vineyard planted in 1920, this is a rather structured Barossa Valley Grenache. Spicy and herbal on the nose, fleshed out with black cherry fruit, but turning crisp and firm on the finish.  — J.C.  (11/1/2007)
