Twin Islands 2010 Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough)

Leafy and nettle-like upfront, but deepening a bit on the palate to show nectarine, grapefruit and tomatillo notes. The only quibble with this medium-bodied white from the winemaker at Nautilus is that it seems almost a little sweet on the finish (the stated residual sugar level is 3 g/L). Drink now.  — J.C.  (9/1/2011)

Plump and round on the palate, this is a bit soft and lacking bite, but does offer a reasonably complex array of pungently herbal notes and melon and fig flavors. Drink now.  — J.C.  (9/1/2010)

Yikes. If you like cat pee, this wine’s for you! Some call it gooseberry. Either way, it’s at the extreme end of that limey, flinty flavor. It’s also dry as the grave, with plenty of cool, crisp acids that make your mouth water.  — S.H.  (1/1/2002)

Twin Islands 2001 Pinot Noir (Marlborough)

Light in color, almost translucent, with simple aromas of earth, sweet tobacco and cherries. Drinks tart roughly earthy, with silky tannins. Has some Pinot character but it’s a very simple, direct wine.  — S.H.  (1/1/2002)
