Upland Estates 2007 Sauvignon Blanc (Snipes Mountain District)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $18
All estate-grown and barrel fermented, this ripe and delicious white wine opens with scents of sweet hay, then is quickly wrapped in flavors of lemon zest, grapefruit and candied citrus. There’s a dusty note as well, and the richness keeps bringing in more nuances—of English Breakfast tea, sweet stone fruits and lightly tropical papaya. Supple, round and luscious…  — P.G.  (8/1/2009)

Upland Estates 2008 Syrah (Snipes Mountain District)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $28
It’s a shame that so little of this wine is made, as it is a textbook example of a powerful, beautifully balanced Syrah from this tiny AVA in the heart of the Yakima Valley. Black fruits abound, wrapped in a firm, muscular, polished package by fine-grained tannins and a dark chocolate finish.  — P.G.  (4/1/2012)

Upland Estates 2008 Sauvignon Blanc (Snipes Mountain District)

  1. $18
Thoroughly delicious. This captures a distinctive side of the grape that blends a sweet grassy herbaceousness with a lively mix of apple, lemongrass, citrus and orange peel, finished with the slightest suggestion of honey.  — P.G.  (8/1/2010)

Upland Estates 2009 Gewürztraminer (Snipes Mountain District)

  • Best Buy
  • Online Exclusive
  1. $12
Gewürztraminer is a great success at this Snipes Mountain winery, here done in a full-bodied, fleshy style that discards any hint of floral soap. Vanilla bean, lemon cream, graham cracker and a thoroughly yummy core of ripe fruit mark this as nonclassic, but incredibly delicious.  — P.G.  (5/1/2012)

Upland Estates 2007 Old Vine Cabernet Sauvignon (Snipes Mountain District)

  1. $28
From 35-year-old vines, this dark, smoky, exotically aromatic Cabernet spent 22 months in American oak, and not too surprisingly that oak influence is still being absorbed, with some rough edges. The fruit is full, lightly (and most agreeably) herbal, supple with blueberry and boysenberry dominating. Give it extra breathing time or better still another year or two…  — P.G.  (11/1/2010)

Upland Estates 2009 Chardonnay (Snipes Mountain District)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $22
An unusual blend that includes 11% Aligote. It’s thick and ripe, with apricot and peach fruit wrapped in buttery oak from aging in French barrels, one third new. The wine has a wonderful midpalate presence, big and full, that leads into a finish with hints of herb as well as lush barrel flavors.  — P.G.  (9/1/2011)

Upland Estates 2007 Malbec (Snipes Mountain District)

  1. $28
Pure varietal, this estate-grown Malbec from Snipes Mountain (central Yakima Valley) is deep and fascinating, with luscious plum and berry flavors accented with floral highlights. It moves gracefully across the palate, showing subtle streaks of earth, iron and a tiny whiff of the barnyard.  — P.G.  (8/1/2010)

Upland Estates 2008 Gewürztraminer (Snipes Mountain District)

  1. $14
Sassy, spicy, and sporting both floral and sweet citrus characteristics, this off-dry Gewurztraminer fills the mouth with candied lemon, sweet papaya and a squirt of fresh lime. Very tasty, with a lingering, refreshing finish.  — P.G.  (11/1/2010)
