Valdelainos 2007 Verdejo (Rueda)
Best Buy

Price
$11
Not many wines of this price are pulling legit 90-point scores. But this one deserves it. The wine delivers citrus and piquant green-fruit aromas, which are backed by honeyed melon and lime flavors. The texture is just soft enough to not bite, while the finish is wavy. 10,000 cases made.

Valdelainos 2005 Verdejo (Rueda)

Delicous Verdejo with no pretenses. The nose is big and oily, but still fresh and full of green herbs and citrus fruits. Solid, stand-up flavors of melon and peach are nice, and there’s even some nuttiness to the stone-fruit dominated finish. A bargain white that touches the right notes.

Valdelainos 2008 Verdejo (Rueda)

This is a nice Rueda wine that is on the cusp of excellence. With citrus, pine and tropical fruit aromas, it is fleshy and shows good body and feel. Flavors of peach and pineapple are full, while the finish is rich and almost creamy in texture. Drink immediately. Imported by Grapes of Spain.

Valdelainos 2007 White (Rueda)

Not an expressive Rueda but it sizzles. Despite being young and driving, it’s more neutral in flavor and texture than the winery’s Verdejo, which is excellent. This wine shows all citrus with light green accents, and with shrimp or Asian foods it’ll do well.

Valdelainos 2009 Verdejo (Rueda)

Sort of generic and oily on the nose, with white-fruit aromas that don’t fully register. The palate is both spongy and spritzy, with dry, soft flavors of melon and papaya. More fluffy and lush than zesty and precise.
