Valenciso 2005 Reserva Tempranillo (Rioja)

  1. $41
Smooth and inviting from the start, with floral aromas, popping cherry and ripe plum on the bouquet. Feels fresh and forward, with black cherry, cola, baked plum and spice flavors. Gets it right all the way through, with smoothness and chocolaty oak on the finish. Drink now through 2015.  — M.S.  (4/1/2012)

Valenciso 2001 Reserva Tempranillo (Rioja)

  1. $35
Leans toward the modern style, with plenty of oak, bacon and plum on the bouquet. Quite upright and balanced throughout, with cherry, raspberry, cola and brown sugar for flavors. A thorough, heartily oaked Tempranillo with purity and style. Almost at the top echelon.  — M.S.  (11/1/2006)

Valenciso 2002 Reserva Tempranillo (Rioja)

  1. $39
Rustic, smoky and deep on the nose, with a creamy body holding up commendable raspberry and plum flavors. Valenciso deals medium-level acids and tannins, with oak-based mocha and chocolate carrying the finish. This wine is so close to reaching the next level, but it doesn’t quite get there.  — M.S.  (4/1/2008)

Valenciso 2000 Reserva Tempranillo (Rioja)

  1. $34
Broad and rubbery, with ripe black fruit and citrus peel on the nose. Good on the tongue, with a solid mouthfeel. And the finish is attractively marinated, offering hints of soy sauce, molasses and sea salt. Fresh enough, and definitely forward in thrust.  — M.S.  (6/1/2005)
