Valentin Bianchi 2003 Particular Malbec (San Rafael)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $30
A big, ripe, saturated offering, the type of wine most red-wine enthusiasts want, and also the type of wine that has earned Argentina its reputation for making serious Malbec. The color is purple, the bouquet rubbery and smoky. The palate is dynamite; the black-fruit flavors are superb and the coffee and dark chocolate nuances just right. A stud of a wine that…  — M.S.  (7/1/2005)

Valentin Bianchi 2002 Particular Malbec (San Rafael)

  1. $30
Excellent color and dark aromas announce this wine as a major league player. The nose represents pure intensity, with tar, oil and heavy blackberry scents. Plum, licorice and more blackberry dominate the ripe palate, while the finish spreads out nicely. Very nice Malbec, but with a price.  — M.S.  (3/1/2005)

Valentin Bianchi 2003 Particular Cabernet Sauvignon (Mendoza)

  1. $30
As convincing an Argentinean Cabernet as you’ll find. The nose offers tight oak, spice, mint and vanilla along with dark, expressive fruit. The palate is right where you’d want it; the cassis, cherry and earth notes are just right. Finishes with vanilla and a touch of cola. Imported by Quintessential LLC.  — M.S.  (11/15/2005)

Valentin Bianchi 2009 Malbec (Mendoza)

  • Best Buy
  1. $13
Smoky, roasted and full on the bouquet, with rich berry and plum aromas. The palate is fleshy, with a chunky middle but just enough tannin and acid to provide structure. Tastes of baked black fruits, fig and herbs. Dry and snappy on the finish.  — M.S.  (8/1/2011)

Valentin Bianchi 2007 Particular Cabernet Sauvignon (San Rafael)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $30
Piercing oak deals aromas of lemon and graphite, and there’s serious berry fruit, herbal scents and sous-bois to go with that. Lively and showing good maturity and acidity, with flavors of black fruits, vanilla, chocolate, toast and tobacco. Good on the finish, with everything coming full circle.  — M.S.  (3/1/2012)

Valentin Bianchi 2000 Enzo Bianchi Gran Cru Cabernet Sauvignon (San Rafael)

  1. $53
It’s 86% Cabernet with some Malbec and Merlot, and the fruit is of the masculine, sturdy stock. The nose offers dusty red fruit, oak, leather and earth. In the mouth, a core of cherry and cassis is surrounded by spice. It’s almost elegant but not quite; it’s bigger than that, but neither heavy nor overripe.  — M.S.  (7/1/2004)

Valentin Bianchi 2004 Famiglia Bianchi Cabernet Sauvignon (San Rafael)

  1. $18
Full barrique aromas work great with the wine’s overriding ripe, rubbery black fruit. Aromas of lemon peel, char and pulsing berry lead toward lively raspberry, plum and herb flavors. Smooth and well rounded. An elevated wine. Imported by Quintessential LLC.  — M.S.  (8/1/2006)

Valentin Bianchi 2001 Enzo Bianchi Red (San Rafael)

  1. $53
This top-of-the-line Cabernet (there’s also 16% Merlot) boasts an impressive texture that’s remarkably smooth and supple. Aromas are complex, combining cinnamon and brown sugar with ripe blackberries and cassis; this wine just needs a little more length to reach the next level.  — W.E.  (10/1/2004)
