Ventisquero 2009 Herú Pinot Noir (Casablanca Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $45
Among Chilean Pinot Noirs, this is one of the best. The bouquet blends leather, berry, plum and spice aromas with fine results. Feels full, elegant and complete on the palate, with spicy, layered flavors of dry berry fruit and peppercorn. Smooth and unwavering on the finish. Drink now through 2014.  — M.S.  (6/1/2012)

Ventisquero 2006 Grey Apalta Vineyards Merlot (Colchagua Valley)

  1. $29
Campfire smoke, charcoal, cola and berry aromas are handsome and convincing. This is one stacked and packed New World Merlot. It oozes baked berry, plum, spice and cinnamon flavors, and then backs that up with toasty coffee and chocolate finishing notes. A stylish wine that’s complex, dark and complete.  — M.S.  (12/31/2008)

Ventisquero 2009 Grey [Glacier] Single Block Cabernet Sauvignon (Maipo Valley)

  1. $20
Superripe and dark, with black currant, black cherry and prune aromas. Jammy and deep in the mouth, but with enough acidity to preserve liveliness. Tastes sweet and ripe, then layered and medicinal on the finish. Pushes the envelope on ripeness.  — M.S.  (12/31/2011)

Ventisquero 2003 Grey Carmenère (Maipo Valley)

  1. $27
Ventisquero’s top Camenère avoids the green qualities that can sometimes plague this variety. Instead, it’s soft and lush, marrying plum and dark chocolate flavors in a seamless package. Contains 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Syrah, so not a pure expression of Carmenère, but a very good one.  — W.E.  (2/1/2006)

Ventisquero 2006 Grey Apalta Vineyards Shiraz (Colchagua Valley)

  1. $29
A big wine with a nose defined by crushed coal and perfumed black fruit. The palate is plush and ripe, but also lively and pleasant. Tastewise, this is generous and defined by good berry, chocolate and herb flavors. Finishes with carob and cinnamon. Laudable New World Syrah, a k a Shiraz.  — M.S.  (12/31/2008)

Ventisquero 2011 Gran Reserva Sauvignon Blanc (Casablanca Valley)

  1. $15
Minearally and fresh on the nose, with hints of grass, lime and apple. Good and round in the mouth, with ample acidic punch and lively flavors of nopal, citrus and tarragon. Mellow and just zesty enough on the finish.  — M.S.  (6/1/2012)

Ventisquero 2009 Grey [Glacier] Single Block Carmenère (Maipo Valley)

  1. $20
This wine consistently scores in the upper 80s. This vintage is dealing hard spice and herbal aromas along with tight-grained oak scents. Fresh but tannic, with bite and juicy, racy flavors of berry matched by woodspice. Fades away with hickory and BBQ flavors.  — M.S.  (12/31/2011)
