Verbena 2006 Riserva Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $75
A pretty and lusciously layered Brunello with dark fruit, spice, leather, tobacco and rum cake aromas. The wine is dense and chewy, with a tight, velvety feel. Dark fruit and spice push the wine across the palate, and both the acidity and tannins are softer than in other 2006 riservas.  — M.L.  (5/1/2012)

Verbena 2004 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

This hearty Brunello offers loads of mature fruit with an emphasis on blackberry, plums and fresh prunes. It’s a chewy, succulent wine that begs to be paired with red meat, grilled pork chops or simple meat dishes that allow enough space for the wine’s natural fruit. In the mouth, it’s rich, creamy and penetrating.  — M.L.  (6/1/2009)

Verbena 2001 Sangiovese (Brunello di Montalcino)

Burnt coffee, black tar, cherry cola, almond paste, stewed strawberries and a note of rubber create a dramatic, slightly over-the-top Brunello. There’s a viscous fullness to the mouth that makes a good match for the wine’s fruity, clean finish. Imported by Tosco Wines.  — W.E.  (4/1/2006)
