Although this is 50/50 Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc blend, the round, ripe texture and the ripe yellow fruits are all Sémillon. The balanced use of wood rounds out what is a big-hearted, fruity, spicy wine that moves in the direction of white Burgundy with its richness.

A 50/50 blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, this shows big fruity flavors tempered with a dry core of tannins. There is a stalky element of black currant skins which adds to the sensation of dryness, but there is also a more mouthfilling character of black plum juice to give the wine a final roundness.

Lovely acidity dominates this wine, the top white wine from Dominique Haverlan’s Vieux Château Gaubert. It is fresh and crisp, with wood underlying attractive apples and cream flavors. A fresh and lively, but also serious, wine.

A wine that is showing signs of maturity, emphasizing the sweetness of the rich vintage. It offers juicy spice, firm but sweet tannins and flavors of licorice and dark chocolate. It is ready to drink.

Weighty fruit, richly perfumed with pears and yellow fruits, stars in this structured offering, the spice flavors giving complexity to an already dense wine. The acidity shows the sweetness of the fruit, a finishing burst over the ripeness.

Soft and open in character, this wine shows spice, white peach and pear flavors. The wine has a dense, concentrated texture, with wood spice giving complexity. Faint tannins give it an edge, which suggests it could age another two years.

Definitely on the grassy, herbaceous side, this second white wine of Vieux Château Gaubert has freshness. But it is the intensity of its grapefruit, gooseberry and green kiwi flavors that are dominant, given an extra edge of some spice.
