Villa Spinosa 1998 Red (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)

  1. $60
This wine exhibits fine spice and nicely measured notes of cinnamon, cumin, leather, espresso and dried prune. Its aromas are those you’d expect from a Turkish bazaar. There’s a slightly brown hue to its color but overall it is thick and concentrated with sweet, sticky flavors and noticeable succulence.  — M.L.  (12/1/2007)

Villa Spinosa 1999 Red (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)

  1. $55
The emphasis here is on elegance, not power or intensity. The wine offers carefully measured notes of apple-nut, cherry, vanilla, mineral, dried lavender and no clear aromatic protagonist. The wine’s age is discernable in the mouth and this suggests that you should not wait to drink it.  — M.L.  (12/1/2007)

Villa Spinosa 2001 Red (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)

  1. $55
This 2001 vintage Amarone shows elegant signs of age with aromas of old spice, dried fruit, dried porcini mushroom and pressed rose petal. It’s a bit tired and flat in the mouth at this point, so if you have a bottle drink it soon.  — M.L.  (12/1/2009)
