Viña Arnáiz 2003 Reserva Red (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $25
Spicy and dark smelling, with aromas of tar, blackberry and earth. The palate has fine feel and flow to it, while the flavors are interesting and juicy, with an emphasis on spiced berry fruit and nutmeg. Long and graceful on the finish. Drink now; it’s ready.  — M.S.  (4/1/2010)

Viña Arnáiz 1998 Reserva Tinto del Pais (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $30
Dark in color, with a bouquet that is chunky and oaky, with notes of tobacco and hard cheese. Blackberry and cherry carry the palate toward a finish that’s a bit hard and grippy. A touch simple when compared to the very best, but still very solid.  — M.S.  (3/1/2004)

Viña Arnáiz 2008 Crianza Tinto del Pais (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $25
Solid on the nose, with pure berry aromas matched by oak-related vanilla. Fresh and medium in weight, with juicy acidity and mild tannins. Tastes of dried red fruits, blackberry, vanilla and tobacco. Fairly long and slightly elegant on the finish. Drink now through 2014.  — M.S.  (4/1/2012)

Viña Arnáiz 2004 Crianza Tinto del Pais (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $17
Toasty on the nose, with balsamic notes, mint, wood and a little less fruit than ideal. Solid and good across the palate, with firm black cherry, blackberry, herb and cola flavors. Fairly tannic but not fierce, with a spicy, mildly herbal finish. Drink now.  — M.S.  (12/15/2009)

Viña Arnáiz 1999 Crianza Red (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $19
Wonderful vanilla and creamy aromas accented with coffee and leather. Unfortunately, the flavors of blackberry and earth did not deliver what the nose promised. The finish was long and tangy—almost a bit tart.  — C.S.  (11/1/2002)

Viña Arnáiz 2001 Crianza Tinto del Pais (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $28
A bit jumpy and sharp. The nose is woody and lively while the palate is accurate in terms of the region but rather forceful with its plum, black cherry and vanilla flavors. Flush and acidic on the finish, with a snappy impression. Unsettled. Imported by CIV/USA.  — M.S.  (2/1/2006)

Viña Arnáiz 2007 Roble Red (Ribera del Duero)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $12
Inky aromas turn warm and charred, while the sizable palate shows blue fruit flavors and some burn. A little grating and hollow as it unfolds, with a warm, simple finish. Tasty but with some holes in the fabric.  — M.S.  (12/15/2009)

Viña Arnáiz 2000 Reserva Tinto del Pais (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $30
Traditionally leathery, with earth and bramble on the bouquet. The cherry, raspberry and cola flavors on the palate are aggressive courtesy of sharp acidity, while some wayward oak-based butter and vanilla rises up late on the finish. Like many in its class, this wine needs food.  — M.S.  (11/1/2006)
