Viña Casablanca 2008 Nimbus Estate Single Vineyard Syrah (Casablanca Valley)

  1. $18
Three years running and this wine has been impressive since its debut in 2006. The nose is dark and sweet, maybe a touch pasty, but loaded with black fruit aromas. The palate is staunch and secure, with pronounced but proper acidity leading to bright, fresh blackberry and cassis flavors. Toasty and chocolaty on the finish, and impressive as a whole. Drink now…  — M.S.  (9/1/2010)

Viña Casablanca 2006 Nimbus Estate Syrah (Casablanca Valley)

  1. $18
Spicy and earthy, with truffle, toast and strawberry aromas. The palate is bright and smooth, with a well-matched mix of plush fruit and juicy acidity. This is the first Nimbus Estate wine we’ve reviewed, and the early word is that this vineyard can produce Syrah with character as well as size. Imported by Carolina Wine Brands USA Inc.  — M.S.  (3/1/2008)

Viña Casablanca 2008 Cefiro Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon (Maipo Valley)

  • Best Buy
  1. $10
A totally correct but well-priced Cab that brings pretty much everything the textbook calls for. The nose features graphite, berry and smoky wood, while the mouthfeel is spot-on and made better by ripe, toasty berry, chocolate and spice flavors. A definite winner at its price point.  — M.S.  (9/1/2010)

Green and spunky on the nose, with light citrus aromas and nothing forced, sour or funky. The palate is full and a little creamy, with just enough acidic kick. Tastes of green melon, lime and banana. Lasting acidity provides pulse to the finish.  — M.S.  (12/1/2011)

Shows serious chops via crisp, pungent aromas of citrus and nettles. The palate is fresh, clean and citric, with flavors of passionfruit, lemon, white grapefruit and minerality. Keeps its form from start to finish. A true Casablanca SB for a good price; drink this spring and summer.  — M.S.  (5/1/2010)

Viña Casablanca 2011 Cefiro Reserva Sauvignon Blanc (Casablanca Valley)

  • Best Buy
  1. $11
Pungent off the bat but not punchy, with pure citrus aromas. Feels fresh, with good acidity and overall balance framing layered flavors of lime, orange, grapefruit and lemon. Turns slightly pithy and green on the finish, but by then it has made its mark.  — M.S.  (6/1/2012)
