Viña Cobos 2010 Bramare Malbec (Luján de Cuyo)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $44
This lush, modern Malbec explodes with power then simmers with complexities. Opaque in color, the bouquet issues intense blackberry, lemon peel, graphite and toast aromas. Viña Cobos 2010 Bramare Cabernet Sauvignon (Luján de Cuyo)

  1. $40
This is tight and sturdy as a rock up front, with licorice, hard spice, leather and black cherry aromas. It feels round, chewy, tough and healthy, with flavors of baked black fruit, chocolate, molasses and hickory. Roasted and oaky, but cool and collected. Drink now through 2016.  — M.S.  (11/1/2012)

Viña Cobos 1999 Bramare Malbec (Mendoza)

  1. $37
The little brother to Cobos; this wine is filled with tobacco, cedar and milk chocolate aromas and all the plum, berry, coffee and licorice flavors one might expect from excellent Malbec. The finish is tight but smooth, with a fine underlay of vanilla oak. This wine has perfect balance; it’s properly acidic yet rich, with freshness and weight but no syrupy qualities.  — M.S.  (11/1/2002)
