Viña Godeval 2000 White (Valdeorras)

  1. $16
A graceful white made of an old Galician grape that was nearly extinct before a handful of pioneer-preservationists rescued it from oblivion. Dry and flavorful, with a lovely thyme-sage bouquet and nutty flavors, this smoothly textured wine is worth seeking out. The long finish displays a fine perfume with a similar herb-nut character. This unique white will pair…  — M.M.  (4/1/2002)

Viña Godeval 2005 Godello (Valdeorras)

  1. $15
More available than most Valdeorras wines—and very good in 2005—Godeval offers a no-nonsense version of the Godello grape. There’s typical slate on the nose but even more apple, pear, nectarine and banana. Friendly, with medium acidity.  — M.S.  (9/1/2006)

Viña Godeval 2010 Godello (Valdeorras)

  1. $18
Neutral smelling at first, then the nose opens to display hay, grass and apple blossom aromas. The palate is tight, crisp and a bit tart, with grassy apple and lime flavors. Zesty and piercing on the finish.  — M.S.  (12/15/2011)

Viña Godeval 2008 Cosecha Godello (Valdeorras)

  1. $19
Peachy, mildly sweet, smooth and inviting. Godeval always makes a true and easy wine that showcases the essence of Godello but doesn’t go off the blueprint. Flavors of apple and citrus are well blended, and the grapefruity finish is only mildly pithy. Eminently drinkable white wine from Spain.  — M.S.  (2/1/2010)

Viña Godeval 2007 Godello (Valdeorras)

Granular, edgy and minerally like a daily vitamin tab, this is a sharp-sided white wine with cleansing pineapple, nectarine and lemony flavors in front of a high-toned, mineral-laden finish that is clean and tight. Very fresh, lively and a little more narrow than in the past.  — M.S.  (6/1/2009)

Viña Godeval 2003 Estate Godello (Valdeorras)

  1. $15
Smooth and round, with meaty melon and pear aromas as it is. Which is quite out of the ordinary for this wine, one that usually pushes crisp white fruits and minerality. But because 2003 was so hot, this vintage is a bit sugary and heavy, but still very pleasant. Drink well chilled. Imported by Jorge Ordoñez/Fine Estates from Spain.  — M.S.  (10/1/2005)

Viña Godeval 2009 Godello (Valdeorras)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $19
Peach and melon aromas are inviting and clean. Very juicy and juice-like in the mouth, probably more so than I can remember for this wine. It tastes like orange, tangerine and grapefuit juices mixed together. The texture isn’t very smooth or wine-like; seems less refined and less minerally than in the past.  — M.S.  (5/1/2011)
