Viña Ijalba 2005 Graciano (Rioja)
Online Exclusive
Price
$23
Darker, denser and more raisiny than your average varietal Graciano, this wine is almost pruney and horsey. But it settles down to offer solid but chunky black plum, prune and balsamic flavors. The finish is stocky but not flabby. Meaty and solid for Graciano. Imported by Baron Francois Ltd.

Viña Ijalba 2001 Reserva Selección Especial Red (Rioja)
Price
$83
Plum and blackberry aromas seem a little oily and undefined, while the palate is full, black, tannic, jammy and tastes of black cherry and/or plum syrup. This is a good wine but not a great one, and at the price you might expect more depth, definition and character than what it gives.

Viña Ijalba 2005 Crianza Red (Rioja)
Price
$17
Unusually exotic and strange on the bouquet, with blueberry, lemon peel and warm mulch aromas. The palate has size and pretty good feel, with tangy blue-fruit flavors, exotic spice notes and zip. Finishes with floral notes and lightness.

Viña Ijalba 2005 Dionisio Ruiz Ijalba Red (Rioja)
Online Exclusive
Price
$33
Big and heavy, with forceful aromas of shoe polish, tar and balsam wood. It’s saturated and dense in the mouth, but the cherry and blackberry flavors are tart and underdeveloped. And the finish falls off fast. Imported by Baron Francois Ltd.

Viña Ijalba 2000 Múrice Crianza Tempranillo (Rioja)
Price
$13
The bouquet begins with uncanny aromas of Italian bitters before turning fat and sweet. The palate is thin and stretched out, with flavors of strawberry and citrus zest. Sort of spicy but more stripped down and dull than exciting. Imported by Baron Francois Collection.

Viña Ijalba 2009 Livor Tinto Tempranillo (Rioja)
Online Exclusive
Price
$11
Smells damp and saucy. Falls off rather than improves with airing; sheer in the mouth, with citrusy, raw flavors of pie cherry and red plum. Crisp and lean on the finish.

Viña Ijalba 2007 Graciano (Rioja)
Online Exclusive
Price
$20
Rooty aromas come with a caustic side, something akin to Pine Sol or ammonia. Feels narrow and restricted, with limited berry flavors, juniper and other weird elements. An intense wine, but not in the right way.

Viña Ijalba 1998 Reserva Red (Rioja)
Online Exclusive
Price
$20
The nose contains beet, fir and air freshener aromas, while the acidic palate pumps red plum and raspberry without any restraint. Tannic, racy and hard.
