Viña Salamanca 2004 Viura/Verdejo White (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León)

  1. $10
Granular on the nose, with mineral-based aromas of vitamins, iron and citrus peel. Thin and metallic on the palate, with dry citrus and not much else. Some tangerine on the tail gives it a boost, but still it is short on continuity and character. Imported by Billington Imports.  — M.S.  (10/1/2005)

Viña Salamanca 2008 Rosado de Lágrima Rufete (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $12
Made from the local Rufete grape, this is a prickly, slightly pickled wine. The flavors seem underdeveloped and pithy like pink grapefruit, while the palate feel doesn’t really mesh. Too out there to savor a second sip.  — M.S.  (11/1/2009)

Viña Salamanca 2008 Malvasia-Verdejo White (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $12
Dilute and pickled, with similarly pickled citrus and melon flavors that lose direction along the way. Rather weak and mealy wine, with a strange profile that has to be due to the Malvasia/Viura marriage.  — M.S.  (12/15/2009)

Viña Salamanca 2007 Rufete-Tempranillo Red (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $12
A tart, stemmy wine with sour red-fruit flavors borrowed from the cherry and plum families. Choppy and acidic, with a biting palate and not much good on offer. It’s 50% Rufete and 50% Tempranillo.  — M.S.  (11/1/2009)
