Viña Vilano 2009 Crianza Tempranillo (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $20
Blackberry aromas blend with open-grained oak to create a slightly charred bouquet. A bit acidic and edgy in feel, with a mix of herb, plum and berry flavors. Tight, juicy and a touch short on the finish, with dry, peppery spice notes. Drink now through 2014.  — M.S.  (5/1/2012)

Viña Vilano 2006 Crianza Tempranillo (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $30
Floral and sweet on the front side of the nose and more dark, grilled and coffee-like on the back end. The palate is more juicy and snappy than some, with no shortage of acidity. Tastes of live-wire cherry and plum, with a long, driving finish. Needs time to settle; drink in late 2010.  — M.S.  (4/1/2010)

Viña Vilano 2004 Reserva Tempranillo (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $40
Comes across a bit baked, syrupy and sweet on the nose, with a hint of stalkiness and stem. The palate has a lush early feel, but further inspection unveils a hollow core. Flavors veer toward earthy raspberry, while the finish is chunky and properly reflects what came before it.  — M.S.  (6/1/2010)

Viña Vilano 2008 Rosado Tempranillo (Ribera del Duero)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $12
An improvement from recent years, but that may be a reflection of when we’re tasting the wine. At this point in time it’s showing dusty plum and raspberry aromas and good body weight. The flavors of raspberry and cherry are solid, while the finish is cleansing. Beyond palatable; it’s really a nice rosé from Tempranillo.  — M.S.  (2/1/2010)

Viña Vilano 2008 Roble Tempranillo (Ribera del Duero)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $16
Aromas of milk chocolate, cotton candy, bacon and sweet fruits are a lead into standard fare cherry and raspberry flavors. The feel is acidic but fresh, while the finish is thin but clean. Average wine.  — M.S.  (4/1/2010)

Viña Vilano 2008 Verdejo (Rueda)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $16
Sort of strange smelling, with perfume and air freshener aromas to go with dust and cider. The palate is wet but short in flavor and length. The citrus and apple character is shallow, while the finish is pithy. Middling and not as fresh as it probably once was.  — M.S.  (2/1/2010)

Viña Vilano 2008 Tinto Tempranillo (Ribera del Duero)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $14
Opens with generic berry aromas and a slight candied, gaseous undercurrent. The palate is modest and lean, with decent raspberry flavors and not a whole lot of follow through. Basic and a bit rubbery.  — M.S.  (4/1/2010)

Viña Vilano 2005 Rosado Tempranillo (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $10
Reddish in color and plump on the nose. The palate, however, deals only light cherry and dilute berry flavors. Inconsequential on the finish, with little character overall.  — M.S.  (12/15/2006)
