Vineyard 48 2004 Cabernet Franc (North Fork of Long Island)
Price
$28
An aromatic wine with dark berry, cherry, mushroom and grass aromas that lead to more of the same in the mouth with a smooth feel. An earthy character develops, meshing well with moderate tannins and a hint of acidity.

Vineyard 48 2005 Reserve Chardonnay (North Fork of Long Island)
Price
$30
Vanilla and oak on the nose lead this opulently-colored wine from Long Island’s Vineyard 48, and on the palate, apple and vanilla mingle. It’s a touch sweet for a Chardonnay but the oak is tempered with a zing of acidity that saves the day. Overall, good fruit flavors and mouthfeel.

Vineyard 48 2005 Riesling (North Fork of Long Island)
Price
$17
Sweet flavors of apples, pears and peaches are balanced with a lively acidity in this playful wine. This is not for fans of dry Riesling—it’s a little too voluptuous for that—but if you like whites that are a little more decadent, this is a tasty bet. It’s an accessible wine and not too complicated, but easy to like.

Vineyard 48 2005 Sauvignon Blanc (North Fork of Long Island)
Price
$15
Grassy, citric flavors on this fresh Sauvignon Blanc give it a tight edge, but give it a little time in the glass and the wine opens up into a rounder, more layered sip. Good acidity keeps the wine light on the palate. Serve with seafood.

Vineyard 48 2005 Chardonnay (North Fork of Long Island)
Price
$16
Citrus mingles with toast. The lively acidity and a tendency toward the lean and flinty means this could use a touch of balance and roundness, but the flavors of apple and peach are appealing and flavorful.

Vineyard 48 2004 Reserve Chardonnay (North Fork of Long Island)
Online Exclusive
Price
$30
An aromatic, floral, and slightly spicy nose is followed by fresh pear and apple on the palate and a touch of oak to ground the fruit and create a nice balance. The initial impression here is pleasing but overall, the wine is somewhat one-dimensional and lean on flavor nuances. Would still pair well with food; think fresh seafood.

Vineyard 48 2004 Reserve Merlot (North Fork of Long Island)

Price
$35
A spicy aroma with wafts of clove and fruit entice, but there's little depth beyond. There's a thinness to the mouthfeel and the flavors are overoaked, but the wine is easy to drink if you are not expecting much more than the basics. The finish is short and lean.

Vineyard 48 2004 Vignetta Red (North Fork of Long Island)
Online Exclusive
Price
$25
There's a weakness to this wine that is tough to get beyond--its spice and cranberry aromas and plummy flavors swimming in a watery structure. What's there is good, it's just too muted to fully enjoy.
