VinRoc 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

From a vineyard below Atlas Peak, this Cab shares the character of that mountain’s reds. It’s bone dry and very tannic and not strongly fruity, with sage-tinged flavors of black currants and cedar. Shows a structural integrity that’s increasingly rare in Napa, and suggests aging, possibly long-term. Best after 2011. Decant before then.  — S.H.  (2/1/2009)

VinRoc 2009 RTW Red (Napa Valley)

  1. $45
This is a classy wine, showing a deep core of ripe blackberries, black currants and spices, with a smoked meat richness, like crispy bacon. Beyond the flavors is a fine mouthfeel, composed of smooth tannins and a nice bite of acidity.  — S.H.  (9/1/2012)

VinRoc 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

You have to look no further than this wine to appreciate how much less the 2006 vintage was than the 2005 (or 2007, for that matter). VinRoc’s ’06 is jammy and candied in blackberries and cherries, and the plaster of oak is heavy. Ready to drink now.  — S.H.  (3/1/2010)

A vegetal note mars this Cabernet, giving it a steamed asparagus note to the blackberry jam flavor.  — S.H.  (12/31/2012)
