Almondy and smoky on the nose, which is a textbook combo for this variety. The wine was 50% barrel-fermented, but it’s not a woody, toasty product. Instead, it’s focused and fruity, with a pretty mix of tropical flavors, banana and melon. Decidedly not bitter, with honey and light notes of vanilla on the finish. — M.S. (7/1/2011)
