Vivác Winery 2007 V Single Vineyard Syrah (New Mexico)

  1. $23
A really strong showing by Vivác, this New Mexican Syrah offers appealing blackberry fruit and wood smoke aromas alongside a crisp palate infused with cassis notes. The medium finish shows some nice bramble character. Try with roasted game. Drink now or hold a year or two for more complexity.  — W.E.  (5/1/2010)

This Cabernet from New Mexico surprises with its complex nose of savory spice, plum and currant, and flavors of red berry, mocha and anise. Firm tannins and good balance are topped by a lingering mocha and mint finish.  — S.K.  (4/1/2009)

Vivác Winery 2007 Merlot (New Mexico)

  1. $17
The nose is a pleasant harmony of dark, ripe fruit, espresso grinds and carefully charred French oak. Coffee and cigar box notes carry through the palate as well, marrying with fresher red-fruit flavors. There’s quite a bit of tannin to grapple with still, but overall, it’s a pleasant medium-bodied red.  — A.I.  (12/15/2010)

Vivác Winery 2006 V. by Vivác Single Vineyard Merlot (New Mexico)

  1. $25
This single-vineyard Merlot smells sweetly of ripe black plums with just a whisper of menthol and Band Aid. Soft on the palate, there’s a good amount of dark fruit, but it’s a tad tired and dusty. The finish is strong with a high-toned acidity and firm tannins.  — A.I.  (12/15/2010)

Vivác Winery 2006 V. by Vivác Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (New Mexico)

  1. $22
A good effort in the rough-and-ready genre. Aromas are straightforward plum shot through with earthy notes. The palate shows good cherry fruit and is quite gripping, with slightly rustic tannins that carry over to the short finish. Give it a year in the cellar to smooth out, then try with hearty beef dishes.  — W.E.  (5/1/2010)

Vivác Winery 2005 Divino Red (New Mexico)

  1. $22
This unique red blend from New Mexico has a nose of candied spice and a smooth but structured character of red berry, spice and a touch of sweetness. It’s not terribly complex but the flavors are good and the overall impression appealing.  — S.K.  (12/1/2007)

Vivác Winery 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon (New Mexico)

  1. $26
With its enticing aromas and flavors of anise, berry and spice, this New Mexico Cabernet has body and a kick to it that’s impressive, and is a fun cohort to grilled steak or ribs. A savory wintertime beef stew would bring out the wine’s tobacco and chocolate flavors, too.  — S.K.  (2/1/2008)

Vivác Winery 2006 Tempranillo (New Mexico)

  1. $20
An alluring nose of plum, leather and spice leads on this red, and on the palate, structured, big fruit flavors follow. It’s jammy but has grip, and though slightly one dimensional, the wine has character. A good showing.  — S.K.  (7/1/2008)
