Voss 2000 Botrytis White (Napa Valley)

  1. $25
Extraordinarily sweet and concentrated, coating the mouth with sugar and honey and the distinctive apricot flavor of botrytis. The underlying fruit flavors veer toward mangoes and papaya, although high acidity makes for a citrusy undercurrent. It’s not just rich, it’s elegant.  — S.H.  (12/1/2002)

Voss 2005 Pinot Noir (Martinborough)

  1. $39
An atypically lush, full-bodied Pinot, this harkens back to the winery’s excellent 2001 in style, ripe and plummy, yet with complex notes of coffee, meat, dried herbs and cracked pepper. Long on the finish, where hints of black tea emerge. Imported by Meadowbank Estates.  — J.C.  (7/1/2007)

Voss 2001 Pinot Noir (Martinborough)

  1. $40
Convincingly demonstrates that a wine can be rich and well extracted, yet retain a sense of balance and elegance. Ripe, plummy fruit is framed by dry spices and toasty oak; the wine is full bodied but seems almost weightless. An intriguing herbal thread winds through the wine from start to finish, offering a compelling note of complexity.  — J.C.  (9/1/2003)

Voss 1996 Shiraz (Oakville)

  1. $24
A real Napa fruit bomb, but deliciously made with tons of pounding fruit and mounds of vanilla from 18 months in American oak. Definitely new-world in style, hence the Shiraz name. Throughout there are nuances of sweet almond candy. Better in another year or two.  — M.S.  (3/1/2000)

Voss 2006 Pinot Noir (Martinborough)

  • Editors' Choice
  • Online Exclusive
  1. $43
This small Martinborough producer continues to excel. The 2006 is a little less savory than some past vintages, but compensates by offering pure black cherry fruit framed by vanilla and cinnamon. Pinot Noir's elusive texture is captured by silky waves across the palate, which take on a velvety edge on the finish. Drink now-2015.  — J.C.  (11/1/2008)

Voss 2009 Sauvignon Blanc (Napa Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $18
A beautiful Sauvignon Blanc, dry and crisp and low in alcohol. With no oak to interfere, it shows vibrant citrus fruit, guava, lemongrass and mineral flavors, balanced with zesty acidity. A beautiful, racy wine.  — S.H.  (7/1/2011)

Voss 2007 Estate Pinot Noir (Martinborough)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $43
Starts with a woodsy, slightly fungal scent, but also waves of black cherry aromas, and those both continue through onto the palate, offering excellent complexity on the long finish. The wine is on the full side, with crisp acids and a firm structure that should see it develop well through 2015.  — J.C.  (11/1/2009)

Voss 2006 Sauvignon Blanc (Rutherford)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $20
It’s rare to get a white wine from Cabernet-centric Rutherford, but Voss does a good job with this dry, crisp, low-alcohol Sauvignon Blanc. You can taste the coolness of the vintage in the tangy acidity and the gooseberry-accented citrus, fig and white pepper flavors.  — S.H.  (12/15/2007)
