Wildwood 2002 Jackson's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (San Luis Obispo County)

  1. $35
Coming from such a cool climate, this Cab isn’t as opulent or ripe as, say, Napa. There’s a wintergreen mint note alongside the sweet red cherry and black raspberry flavors, and a lightly elegant weight. It’s a different kind of Cab, but a dry, good one, and very friendly with food.  — S.H.  (11/1/2006)

Wildwood 2003 Jackson's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (San Luis Obispo County)

  1. $35
SLO has always struggled with this variety, but Wildwood seems to be getting the knack for Cabernet. Tastes like the grapes were grown in a warm area and yields were carefully limited: the flavors of blackberries plums and mocha are rich. The challenge is to improve structure, and particularly tannins, in a wine of this price.  — S.H.  (10/1/2007)

Wildwood 2001 Syrah (San Luis Obispo)

  1. $35
Pretty tannic and tough now, this cool-climate wine nonetheless has well-developed black cherry flavors, with earthier overtones of white pepper, coffee and herbs. It’s likeable for the full-bodied fruit and balance. Decant for a few hours.  — S.H.  (12/1/2004)

Wildwood 2002 Sheri's Vineyard Syrah (San Luis Obispo County)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $28
Distinctly ripe, with plum, blackberry, dark chocolate and coffee flavors, this Syrah is firm in rich, thick tannins, totally dry, and a bit rustic. The vineyard is located just north of the Edna Valley, in a warmer location.  — S.H.  (11/1/2006)

Wildwood 2002 Gina's Vineyard Syrah (San Luis Obispo County)

  1. $28
Fragrant in raspberry, cherry, and sweet lavender, this gentle Syrah finishes with a dusty cocoa note. It’s an easy but sophisticated wine, dry and well-structured.  — S.H.  (11/1/2006)

Wildwood 2003 Gina's Vineyard Syrah (San Luis Obispo)

  1. $28
Kind of on the sweet, sugary side, but not so much that it gives you a toothache. The flavors of blackberry jam, cherry and raspberry pie filling and vanilla fudge could only have come from a hot climate vineyard.  — S.H.  (11/1/2007)

Wildwood 2003 Sheri's Vineyard Syrah (San Luis Obispo)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $28
Too soft and sugary to earn a better score, this Syrah’s cherry-blackberry and carob flavors taste sweet. The wine needs greater acid-tannin balance.  — S.H.  (11/1/2007)
