Xavier Flouret 2007 uQamata Red (Stellenbosch)
-
$20
Made by Carmen Stevens, one of South Africa’s first black female winemakers, this is a gorgeous blend with rich aromas and flavors of black currant leaf, licorice, cigar tobacco, boysenberry and black cherry. Lush and creamy in the mouth, the finish offers a hint of fresh mint sprig for a last minute lift.

Xavier Flouret 2008 Domaine Chatelain French Blonde Sauvignon Blanc (Sancerre)
-
$23
Rich Sauvignon flavors here, the herbaceous element made weighty by the full-on apricot and green plum tastes. There is a tight, steely texture, with powerful acidity well integrated with the fruit.

Xavier Flouret 2007 Kavalier Kabinett Trocken Riesling (Mosel-Saar-Ruwer)
-
$25
This French-sounding brand has turned out a very good German Riesling, thanks to an assist from the folks at Selbach-Oster. It’s a light, dry wine with a fair amount of complexity, including hints of pear, melon, wet stone, petrol and peppery spice. Finishes long, with more minerals and spice.

Xavier Flouret 2006 Domaine de Châtenoy Rouge Noir Pinot Noir (Menetou-Salon)

$24
Close to Sancerre, Menetou-Salon produces a soft style of Pinot Noir, the acidity tamed by fresh tannins and loganberry fruits. A hint of wood gives extra weight.
