Yates Family Vineyard 2007 Alden Perry Reserve Red (Mount Veeder)

  1. $55
Impressive from start to the very long finish, and even better than the splendid ’06. Rich and full-bodied, this Bordeaux blend is marked by soft, sweet tannins and concentrated, oak-infused flavors of blackberries, black currants and chocolate, with complexing notes of olives and smoked meats. Should develop for up to a decade.  — S.H.  (4/1/2011)

Yates Family Vineyard 2006 Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon (Mount Veeder)

  1. $65
Hard to imagine greater concentration in a Napa Cabernet than you’ll find here. It’s just insanely rich in blackberries and blueberries and liberally oaked, while the tannins are hard and potent. Nowhere near ready now, even though it’s already more than five years old. Give it at least six years in a good cellar, and it could easily go another decade beyond that.  — S.H.  (4/1/2012)

Yates Family Vineyard 2006 Flower Red (Mount Veeder)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $50
A very rich, sumptuous wine, filled with cherry, red currant, cola, mineral, herb and oak flavors, but they’re wrapped into the hard tannins Mount Veeder is known for. Dry and sophisticated, but tough, it’s a wine that wants time in the cellar. Better after 2014.  — S.H.  (7/1/2011)

Yates Family Vineyard 2006 Alden Perry Reserve Napa Redwoods Estate (Mount Veeder)

  1. $42
Shows the mountain tannins of Mount Veeder, but is so soft and fruity, you can drink it now. Displays waves of blackberries, red and black currants, orange zest, violets, smoky sandalwood and pepper flavors. Best now and through 2012.  — S.H.  (9/1/2009)

Yates Family Vineyard 2006 Cheval Napa Redwoods Estate (Mount Veeder)

  1. $40
The lusciousness factor on this wine is high. It’s soft, dry and silky, with sensual flavors of red cherries, vanilla, cola, herbs and anise. Almost like a Pinot Noir, but a little bit more full-bodied. Drink now.  — S.H.  (9/1/2009)

Yates Family Vineyard 2006 Napa Redwoods Estate Cabernet Sauvignon (Mount Veeder)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $48
Here’s a big, dark, tannic mountain Cab that’s clearly in need of time. It seems balanced enough for the long haul, a dry wine with proper acidity and a deep core of blackberries, currants and cassis, accented with smoky oak. Should hit its stride between 2010 and 2014.  — S.H.  (9/1/2009)

Yates Family Vineyard 2008 Alden Perry Reserve Red (Mount Veeder)

  • Cellar Selection
  • Online Exclusive
  1. $60
A distinguished Bordeaux blend from a winery that flies a bit under the radar. It’s rich and dramatic in intensely concentrated mountain fruit, brimming with blackberry and black currant flavors, liberally oaked and framed in thick, refined tannins. Possesses real elegance and dynamism, but it needs bottle age. Hold until 2014.  — S.H.  (4/1/2012)

Yates Family Vineyard 2007 Fleur de Veeder Merlot (Mount Veeder)

  1. $35
Shows the rich, concentrated tannins associated with Mount Veeder, as well as the rich, ripe fruit. Oak stands out, with toasty caramel, as well as strong flavors of blackberries, cherries and currants. Yet the real star is the mouthfeel. It’s fleshy and almost fatty and should develop in the bottle through 2013.  — S.H.  (6/1/2010)
