Zefina 2002 Serience White Wine (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $20
Not what you’d expect; this is a 55% Viognier/45% Roussanne blend, robust and balanced. It crisply mixes the honey/floral and citrus/tropical characters of the two grapes, while walking the stylistic tightrope between stainless steel and barrel fermentation.  — P.G.  (1/1/2004)

Homegrown zin is catching on in Washington, and this captures the style nicely. Claret-like, with bright berries and juniper spice highlight a taut, fresh, tangy wine.  — P.G.  (1/1/2004)

Zefina 2004 Serience Red Wine (Horse Heaven Hills)

  1. $30
The Serience Red is a southern Rhône blend of 42% Grenache, 35% Syrah, 11% Mourvèdre, 7% Cinsault and 5% Counoise. Though a new release, it comes out nicely aged, benefiting from some extra time in bottle. The flavors are round and fruity, and the wine has a sweet core of ripe red berries, baking spices and light herbs. The only disappointment is the finish, which…  — P.G.  (11/1/2008)

The blend is 60% Viognier and 40% Roussanne; the wine is a rich golden color, with an equally rich and fruity mouthfeel. Flavors include lots of golden apple, hints of peach and light tropical. This is well-balanced, seamless and shows medium concentration.  — P.G.  (11/1/2008)

Zefina 2005 Tempranillo (Horse Heaven Hills)

  1. $25
This is the first Tempranillo from Zefina (just 60 cases made) from vines planted at the Alder Ridge vineyard in 1999. It is soft, fruity and dark, with some pretty spice showing in the nose. There are attractive floral notes, sweet herbs and a mix of light red fruits to follow. The tannins are soft and the acids are well under control, leading into a lightly…  — P.G.  (12/1/2008)

Zefina 2003 Serience Red (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $30
This unusual wine mixes Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Counoise and Cinsault—not gonna find that in California! It’s got a great spicy edge to it, along with chocolatey tannins and acids that suggest a lick of grapefruit—the Washington Syrah signature. It’s a very appealing red blend, great for tossing into any party mix, unpretentious, rich and flavorful.  — P.G.  (5/1/2007)

The Serience is round and fruity, with sweet strawberry jam flavors front and center. This shows its 14.6% alcohol with a bit of burn in the finish.  — P.G.  (3/1/2010)
