Zerba Cellars 2007 Petit Verdot (Walla Walla Valley (WA))

  1. $38
Petit Verdot as a pure varietal wine is not only rare, it’s difficult. This is a classic blending grape, that can seem quite thick and tannic when tasted alone. Yet here, despite alcohol topping 15%, it is a beautifully proportioned and detailed blockbuster of a red. Along with the ripe blackberry fruit you’ll find tar, toast, cedar and chocolate, layered nicely…  — P.G.  (5/1/2010)

Zerba Cellars 2007 Tempranillo (Walla Walla Valley (WA))

  1. $38
This 100% Tempranillo, coopered for 22 months in American oak, is impressive. The fruit flavors coalesce around raspberry/strawberry hard candy, with juicy natural acidity and a hint of tanned leather—not sweaty saddle, but real leather. It’s got fine, dusty tannins, and excellent persistence.  — P.G.  (5/1/2010)

Zerba Cellars 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon (Walla Walla Valley)

  1. $30
A fine effort and multiple gold medal winner, this is loaded with cherry fruit set around a broad midpalate. It holds its flavors consistently right on through the finish, bringing in barrel notes of coffee liqueur, Bourbon barrel and vanilla.  — P.G.  (12/15/2011)

Zerba Cellars 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon (Walla Walla Valley (WA))

  1. $30
This is a Cabernet-dominated Bordeaux blend. It’s got muscle and meat, plenty of red and black fruits, and interesting suggestions of fennel. The fruit and herb are nicely balanced and matched, giving the tannins an appealing herbal character that is not too green.  — P.G.  (3/1/2010)

Zerba Cellars 2004 Merlot (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $28
This is clean and juicy, with tart red berry flavors and light cinnamon toast. Supple and approachable, it’s a good effort in a difficult year, when the estate vineyard was shut down by the freeze.  — P.G.  (3/1/2007)

Zerba Cellars 2007 Wild Z Red (Walla Walla Valley (OR))

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $20
Zerba’s crowd-pleasing Wild Z blends Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah about equally, with a splash of Cabernet Franc to finish it off. It’s a ripe, full, forward, chocolaty mouthful. It keeps the red fruit tart and tantalizing, while loading in the barrel flavors (French and American) to round off the finish. A fine follow-up to the excellent 2006.  — P.G.  (10/1/2010)

Zerba Cellars 2006 Merlot (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $30
Very firm and tannic, this gently earthy Merlot-dominated blend also includes 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. Cranberry and pomegranate red fruits are softened with buttery oak, and the wine shows more polish than in previous vintages.  — P.G.  (3/1/2010)

Zerba Cellars 2006 Wild Z Red Wine (Walla Walla Valley (WA))

This is the best Wild Z to date, with evolved and fragrant aromas of brown sugar, ripe raspberries, cinnamon and cedar. Flavors follow in kind, with soft, mature fruit laced with streaks of vanilla.  — P.G.  (3/1/2010)
