Zuccardi 2008 Aluvional Malbec (La Consulta)

  1. $80
A gorgeous 100% Malbec with freshness, depth and complexity, this smells like graphite, cola, bacon and blackberry, then feels strapping—like granite. Smooth, deep berry flavors are matched by spice and leather, while the finish is oak driven, with coffee, coconut and chocolate notes. Drink now–2018.  — M.S.  (12/31/2012)

Zuccardi 2008 Zeta Malbec-Cabernet Sauvignon (Mendoza)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $45
Powerful, pure and tightly wound, meaning it’s a candidate for short-term cellaring, say 2–5 years. Smells ripe and fruity, with blackberry, cola and coconut resulting in a spot-on nose. Concentrated and juicy, with a strong constitution and potent plum, berry and cassis flavors. Toasty and lightly oaky on the finish; 73% Malbec and 27% Cabernet Sauvignon.  — M.S.  (3/1/2012)

Zuccardi 2006 Q Malbec (Mendoza)

  1. $22
A rich and creamy wine with good structure and plenty of fruit. The nose yields berry essence, vanilla and smoky wood notes, while the palate has depth, layering and composed flavors. There’s coffee and chocolate on the finish, and the texture and length seem just right. It’s oaky for sure, but this vintage of Q can handle it. Drink now through 2012.  — M.S.  (5/1/2009)

Zuccardi 2009 Q Malbec (Mendoza)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $20
A home run in middle-tier Malbec. Excellent power and balance are on display. It’s firm, minerally and tight, but with generous berry and cassis aromas and flavors along with ample coffee, spice and mocha qualities. Impressive, especially given the price tag; drink now through 2014.  — M.S.  (5/1/2011)

Zuccardi 1999 Q Malbec (Mendoza)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $22
Everything comes together handsomely in this elegant rendering of Argentina's premier red grape. A full, briary nose with dark-berry, earth and chocolate aromas opens to a smooth palate, with very good fruit to wood balance. The close is solid and spicy, with tangy tannins and pepper notes. Tasty now, the wine should improve through mid-decade.  — W.E.  (12/15/2001)

Zuccardi 1999 Q Merlot (Mendoza)

  1. $22
Familia Zuccardi has shown well with the “Q” series of varietally labeled wines. The Merlot’s rich blackberry fruit held its intensity and remained interesting throughout the mouth, accented with a lush creaminess that was supported by the firm tannins. Made to drink now, but will last for a few years. —C.S.  — C.S.  (5/1/2002)

Zuccardi 2009 Emma Bonarda (Mendoza)

  1. $32
Black cherry and wild berry aromas are tight and don’t stray much from center stage. The palate is layered, fresh and spunky, with flavors that match the bouquet in that cherry, wild berry and plum run the show. Toasty and chocolaty on the finish, with a rock-solid feel and bright fruit flavors that don’t quit.  — M.S.  (11/1/2011)
